Myc coverage in casing
    #4562509 - 08/21/05 12:20 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I've searched far and wide to find out what percentage of a casing should be covered in myc before putting it in a fruiting chamber. Allow me to elaborate: I'm using a very simple casing recipie found elsewhere on sporelab. The myc started appearing on the surface and have spread to cover abour 40% of the surface. I'm sitting here thinking that I read that the entire surface must be covered before birthing. But then I second guessed myself and went looking for the answer. All the teks tell you how to prepare a casing, but don't tell you when the right time to put it into the fruiting chamber. Is there some sort of trigger or event that tells you, "Ok, it's fruitin' time!"

it is time to fruit when you are just able to see the myc poking through the casing layer. when you are able to see it under the surface, you don't want your casing layer to colonize.

Ok, so would it be too late to salvage this first casing of mine? As I said, it's about 30-40% colonized. Is there any hope?
