overcooked WBS is it still useable?
    #4562367 - 08/21/05 11:30 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I started to pressure cook my WBS quarts last night, kicked back on the recliner and awoke at about the hour and a half mark. I turned the pot off, let it cool and this morning opened it up. When I did there was still plenty of water in the PC, but there was also a rather strong sweet smell and the WBS had gotten a little bit darker in color, almost like a light roasting or maybe the sugars in the WBS caramelized or something. Water content still looks the same, and the jars are all intact. Is this still usable?
Thanks,
Toadstools

should be fine, ive had wbs go nuts in the pc and still colonize fine. i even once had a jar where all the seeds exploded the entire jar was packed full of seed mush, i was like fuggit and knocked it up anyways, 2 months went by with no growht then one day bam, myc, its colonizing in my room right now. kind of weird, like the myc waited for enough of the water to evap through the polyfill.

If the wbs is not mushy, you should be fine.

You should be fine. The mycelium may take awhile to adjust to the grain/water/explosions ,lol.

Seriously, I have had some that were about 50% exploded kernels and the jars took a few more days/maybe a week more like a week and a half to two weeks, to colonize, but they did colonise.

Too much/not enough water will make a big difference, but, exploded kernels doesn't have that much of an impact. It does but not that much FME & IMO.

I wouldn't get into a habit of preparing them that way -Optimum is around 5% exploded grains.

Good luck and may you be blessed with many shrooms!
