How to seal filter bags????
    #4562269 - 08/21/05 12:57 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I ran out of jars today after I cooked up like 20 lbs of millet, and had some filter patch bags laying around that I have never used....Now I am trying to figure out the best way to seal them without an impulse sealer. Any advice would be much appreciated!!! Thanks a lot!

ghetto lighter tek, use a lighter to just melt the edges and then press them together with the ole fingers. can't guarantee an air tight seal this way though but it can be achieved if you work at it.
impulse sealers or vacuum sealers on ebay, can get great deals. hooked up a 15" sealer for $31.00.
best of luck

nope, a cheap easy and effective way to do it without those overpriced impulse sealers is to get some aluminum plated tape used in air conditioning systems. its super sticky and holds its form.

Hell.....Just use some duct tape ...... Or if you have it handy use some micropore tape from 3M . This stuff breaths like the filter on the bag.

Get 2 layers of newspaper, fold it and put it over the edge of the bag. Get and iron and iron the paper. Leave it cool and tear the excess paper off

You are going to find that trying to SEAL an autoclave bag without a GOOD IMPULSE SEALER, is like trying to pound nails with a saw, or trying to cut wood - with a hammer.

Yes. It should be connected. That is the heating wire. Your impulse sealer is already usable. Turn the dial up a bit. Probably to around 5 or so. Maybe 4. I got my impulse sealer today and that wire wasn't hooked to that post. It was confusing as hell, but I finally got if worked out and it worked GREAT.

thats all i do anymore. my impulse sealer is gathering dust...

its actually easier to just fold the top down 3 or 4 times, and tape it up until the entire fold is covered.

But i use strong packaging tape instead of duct tape

You can also twist the top of the bag and seal it with a length of wire like a loaf of bread.

I also fold it over and tape with masking tape, saves time and the bags. I was also more prone to contams while using the sealer.
