Near perfect manure texture
    #4561635 - 08/21/05 03:27 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Lately, I've been taking the time to grate my manure with a cheese grater into a super fine texture with absolutely no clumps. It's well worth the effort, and the difference is immediately noticeable in the rhizo action alone. However, it takes a long time to process just a little bit of manure for one small tray.

How do you people process your manure even further, if at all? I'm looking for a better way to do this, and appreciate any ideas you might have.

i have been breaking it all up by hand as of late but i am in the works on putting together a big sieve to run it through. i was thinking like a 1/8" or 1/4" mesh, should break it down pretty good. maybe like a 2'x2' square of it mounted above a tarp or bucket. should make alot shorter work of it.

nice looking rhizos too, diver. ooops holydiver.

peace

Hmmm yeah, I've used the 1/4" welded mesh to process it before, but you still have semi-large chunks when all is said and done, and dried. There must be a better way to grate dried poo than a cheese grater, ha.

The thought crossed my mind .  It could definitely work, but I don't have one at the moment.

thrift store trip in the making. don't use the wifes or the poo may not be the only thing ground up in there. lol
not sure about it, you wouldn't be able to do alot at one time. so it could be a time consuming task as well.
thinking

I use my straw electric chipper/mulcher. I found it used in my local craigs list for 40 bucks. It turns nuggets into the most heavnly texture (wait can I say heavenly when talking of manure?) for mushroom cultivation. Its like.... coco coir texture, supercharged with manure. You COULD even add some coir and verm to it.

Ahh, that's the ticket, thanks themills.  And yes, only around here can you say "heavenly" when talking about manure, and get away with it.

I'm thinking of using a pasta collander and forcing it through into fine texture with a bowl/pastry cutter.  Dunno.  Will mix this with some shredded straw, tho, as I'm dealing with compost/composted hpoo.

I am interested in giving a go for experimental purposes....

I dunno, man.  The more you sample different substrate batches...the more you realize Leary's mantra: "Set and setting."

Regardless, we would like to find a dubble blind placebo trial, I guess, like BluHoney did.

But, then--shouldn't we just all start pouring vodka and bread and peeing in jars and conjuring forth the LZD gods and find trips there?

Buy a small cheap 1-2 hp garden tiller, you know the little pussy ones old ladys use for smale flower beds, or you use it to till around growing plants without knocking them down. Put your poo in a tub and till it untill its broke down.

After I leech manure and it dries I use a shovel to break up manure into small pieces, then as Im mixing my substrate I break it up further, usually the poo looks like soil after Im done with it.

unfortunately it's a little costly, you'll need a tractor with a 3 point hitch and PTO, mine is 65hp, but nothing works better for larger amounts of poo

it's a Howse 72" rotary tiller
