Why right-wingers?
    #4561117 - 08/21/05 12:34 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I was just pondering something, and i hope someone could answer this. I do not mean to offend anyone, but i was just genuinely wondering why there are right-wingers on this website. I've been reading different posts on this site and i have noticed alot of people who have a right based philosophy. This seems odd to me considering this is a website centered on drugs. The right-wing is notorious for censorship of all kinds, especially censorship of the free thinking individuals (a.k.a. drug users). If you dont believe me then answer this, "why was timothy leary called the most dangerous man in america and then thrown in jail for a ten year sentence?" Even before him, the Beats (obviously big drug users) were called the biggest threat in the nation. It seems obvious that right-wingers dont really like drugs or drug users. ALso, the liberals dont like drugs either. The only people who have genuinely supported drugs have been the far-left. So it strikes me as kind of odd that there are any people on this site who aren't philosophically on the far-left. Maybe someone could answer this for me.

Not all right-wingers are against drug use.

Contrary to the claims of the drug prohibitionists, consuming hallucinogenic drugs does not dim your intellect.

I can appreciate some right-wingers, as if we were all radical leftists it would be extremely boring to echo the same mantra in every thread. The abrasive right-wing warmongers who feel the US can do no wrong and should just launch nukes into the Middle East are who cannot understand on this forum.

Thats a distortion. I am mostly right wing because I believe in states rights, and gun rights, and small federal government. If there was more states rights and smaller federal gov control Cali would have legal mj. I really don't understand how you can equate right wing with anti-drug any more than you can equate liberal with anti-drugs? I guess its the same for both sides each sides radical faction is pro-drug?

if we were all radical leftists, life wouldn't be boring, it would be a life where we can actually practice such things as freedom of religion, freedom of the press, or maybe even the freedom to take mushrooms.

In the mainstream, right-wingers are deemed those who want religious statues everywhere/against drugs and left-wingers are those who "just wanna like, legalize marijuana and save the rain forest."

Contrasting George W. Bush to Howard Dean, this is accurate.

The mainstream is moderate. What about radicals? Radical Right Wingers are not the same as George Bush.

what you are talking about is not being right wing. Sure, right-wingers support all those things, but so do anarchists. Why aren't you an anarchist. they believe all that stuff plus they believe in not censoring such things as drug use. You are 50% republican, but it seems like you are 100% anarchist, from what you've said.

Goat, I was actually thinking about posting this exact topic tonight, but didn't know how to word it without being offensive. I have a gift for putting my foot in m mouth.
All right, right-wing friends. This is what I think. I used to thinkn I was conservative and spent all day listening to the talk radio. Drug use was something they harped upon quite often. In my opinion, legal drug use goes with the tenets of liberalism, the freedom of individuals to make their own choices. However, nither side can say anything positive about it because they'll be stigmatized and give ammo to the other side. This is why I hate politics. Towing a party line is more important that individuality.

Anarcists are neo-hippy idiots who use sling shots against cops in full riot gear at the WTO. I am not one of those.

It is simply not true that only the far-left supports drug legalization. Look into the Libertarian Party. While they are liberal on social issues, such as drugs, they are very conservative on fiscal policy. And furthermore, they have a comprehensive philosophy which underlies their beliefs. One must differentiate between social conservatism, which is largely anti-drug, and fiscal conservatism, which seeks as little government involvement in the economy as possible. There are several other dimensions of the political spectrum as well, such as foreign policy.

Nice stereotyping there, friend. Do you believe they all wear handkerchiefs and protest outside of the RNC, too?

the libretarian party is considered far-left. while they do have conservative views towards many policies, essentially anarchists also have conservative views but are still considered far-left. In fact the same goes with many such groups, like robert anton wilson's Guns and Dope party. the difference is that libretarians stlye of conservative is more like conservatism in a Taoist philosophical way, but definitly not in a political way. the people who are considered conservatives by the masses share few, if any, resemblances to libratarians.

It's just a matter of labels. Quantum doesn't want to be labeled an anarchist because of what he thinks that signifies. If we weren't so concerned with labels we could see the subtleties in our different beliefs.
Connotation Kills.

i agree totally. i think it is very hard to find people who transcend the party line. i am glad that there is finally someone, like yourself, who has his doors of perception cleansed.
