Any Terry Pratchett books are good, if you're into comedic writing that'll inspire thought. If you want to see one of his books to get an idea of his writing style, look at my journal.

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
1984 - George Orwell
Animal Farm - George Orwell
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess

There's a few off the top of my head.

thanks for the listings so far. yeah flaccid ive read all of dan browns books but for some reason or another i liked TDC the best but A&D is definitely a great read also. ive been wanting to read a fantasy book for some time but just didnt know the good books very well so i appreciate that list a lot.
shmoppy thanks for that great list im almost done with 1984 and as soon as im done it might go into my favorites list. brave new world im going to try again soon (its hard for me to understand his writing for some reason) and especially thank you for clockwork orange i had meant to read that book a long time ago but i totally forgot about it.

Try The Contortionist's Handbook by Craig Cleavenger or Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. Another absolutely excellent one is the Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Neffinegger. All three are in paperback.
Ever read any Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Neverwhere)?

if you liked the Da Vinci Code you will love his newest book "Angles and Demons" it is his best one yet i think. it has the same main character as Da vinci code but the books dont relate at all besides that.

im almost 100% sure that angels and demons came out before the davici code. actually it did. its jsut his books are now getting popular because of his smashing hit. he is working on a new book and the only info ive seen on the title of it is that its called solomons key (or something very similar). if you know much about the whole solomon story then it should be very interesting but i just hope he doesnt over kill the whole religion kick he is on. but if you like both of those books then you should read his other two, digital fortress and deception point. they arent like the davinci code or angels and demons but they are both good in there own way.

digital fortress is my next read i think. i really do like his style though. do you know any books that have the whole religion/secret society thing going on for them?

I recommend these two books:

"The Dragons of Eden"
and
"Demon-Haunted World"

both by Carl Sagan.
