Let it Rain!!
    #4558929 - 08/20/05 02:08 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Well there's nothing but hot dry weather in the 7-day forecast in the PNW.  I enjoy the fun in the sun, but I'm itchin to go picking.  Recently, I've found that my back yard is a little factory for Pann subbs after a good rain.  But since there will be no rain any time soon, I was wondering about an alternative.  Will a sprinkler left on for say 5 - 7 hours in the night produce anything but an expensive water bill?
I know its impossible to determine these things for sure but any advice would be appreciated.

Nearly every time it rains, my lawn has had subbs popping up since early august so it may be worth a shot?

Also, would it be better to concentrate the sprinkler in one area for the entire night, or move it around at 2 or 3 hour intervals?

im not sure but if you can effectively reproduce a rainfall i think it would work, i would say move the sprinkler around every once in a while

I also can't wait for the rain. We were already picking tooth fungus, hen of the woods, and chanterelles this time last year in the Cascades. I guarantee however, once the rains start, be ready to fill pillowcases full of mushrooms.

I was thinking about that earlier. I also live in the PNW.
My thoughts were, a sprinkler may not be the same, because actual rain water has some certain stuff in it. right? And the water from the facet could have some chemicals that would harm/destroy the shroom growth.

i say natural is the way to go but...

i think the house water will be fine. i put some cow patties in the yeard and once a day i filled a cup up with water and poured it on the patty, and once the humidity went up i yielded some shroomies, some bueties to.

so if i used tap water i think youll be just fine :-)
hope that helps, maybe try sprinkling alittle part of the yard.

It would produce some. I have found them in my parents yard in a circle around where she had the sprinkler set up. Each time she waters an area well, it produces. Go for it man.

I've been watering a cyan patch on my property via a sprinkler all summer now, and after doing some careful checks last week, I found the mycelium is going crazy.

It wouldn't hurt, mushrooms like water regardless of where it comes from.

Hmmm, I didn't know that. That's good. I should start watering my lawn tomorrow. Although I did hear it's going to rain Tuesday

heh, water it to a never ending watery hell, then let it naturally rain.

as long as its not flooding (makind puddles) it should enhance growth. Hurricaine dennis came by a few months back and where it was not flood---e--d---- there were millions of lil- shroomies. !

tell us how it goes
