Need some help, quick question on casing.

hey guys, quick question
if i'm going to case straight verm on the bottom, and then 50/50 verm/peatmoss on the top, should i wet the bottom layer of vermiculite?

Bottom layer should be a little drier than the top. Squeeze test it. Hydrated, a firm squeeze should only - just give you a drip or 2 & you are good to go.

Ive even seen great results from not using a bottom layer at all.Not that Im saying thats what you should do, or that I even think it's a good idea.

I wouldn't even bother with a bottom layer. The bottom layer was introduced to soak up water from improper water delivery some now believe it helps keep cakes hydrated (wrong!) We are nature here and learning proper water delivery is what will keep things hydrated whether it's manual or automated. Understand that wet layer will stagnate over time especially if allowed to saturate, there is no transpiration under there to speak of and anerobic bacterial infections just love those places and myc does not.
