Humbolt Co. Cyan hunting
    #4556483 - 08/19/05 09:01 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

HI.
I recently moved from my home in Vista, CA to Arcata to attend school at Humboldt State University.  I'm interested in educating myself to properly identify Psilocybe Cyanescens in the wild.  Can anyone give me some basic information regarding spore prints, habitat/location or good picking seasons?
If anyone would like to pm me some more information about cyans around the Humboldt Bay area I would greatily appreciate it.
Thanks   :sun:

Such as...

There will be no Psilocybe cyanescens growing in Humboldt county for a few months.

Hey there.

I no longer reside in Humboldt County, but I'll be happy to tell you exactly where and when to go to find them in the area around Humboldt Bay.

It's not like it's a big secret, most of the old-timers know about them, and so do the cops. But as long as you're discrete, no one will mess with you in Humboldt. Lots of people on this board will claim that Psilocybe Cyanescens grow only in alder chips, but the ones around Humboldt Bay grow directly from the leafstalks of sodden, sandy dune grass. Down low, where the rotten stalks are lying under the sand. Same function as the alder chips serve in Seattle, I suppose.

I found lots last year, starting Mid-Late October. Psilocybe Cyanescens. Awsome effect. If you've got the time to look, you'll find lots.
Peace

Good luck. While you're there, try and find Chris Rood, he can help you.

I'll be making trips to Humboldt and further North throughout this fall... maybe we'll run into each other.
