substrate question

I'm planning on doing the 50/50+ casing method.
I just ordered some coarse verm for the substrate, and I was wondering what you guys reccomend to mix the verm with. Should I use BRF or rye grain, etc.
I also am looking for some oyster shell and hydrated lime. I tried to search shroomery vendors for these, but only found one that sells it and the shipping charges from this site were insane, so I was wondering if there are any other reliable www sources you guys have used.

I think you may be a little confused
substrates can be made with rye or BRF, casing should have no nutritional value, vermiculite and coco coir are ideal for that, if you want to use rye, eith use it as a whole grain and pressure cook it to make sure it sterile and dont add vermiculite to it

I would suggest peat moss and verm for the 50/50 casing coir is a bit more time sensitive as to when you need to start fruiting check local pet stores for the crushed oyster shells I get mine at petsmart they sell it with the bird supplies and any home depot or garden center has lime I use 1 part lime 1 part oyster shells for 9 parts peat

brown rice flour/verm/water in a 1:2:1 ratio works pefect, especially for a beginner. for best results, you can spawn the colonized brf cakes to poo, which i havent done yet but will try my first time in a few weeks.
