Casings?

Im a little confused on what casing is, I thought it was the kerr or ball jars filled with substrate? Can anyone fill me in?

Casing is when you take your cake, after being fully colonized, and cut or crumble it into a pan. Sometimes it's sandwiched between... say.....moist perlite or vermiculite on bottom and potting mixture on top, then placed in a chamber for growing. As opposed to simply placing your cakes in a growing chamber. There are many methods and recipes for casing. And quite abit of info on the subject on this site. Once I cased for the first time, I never went back to growing off cakes, but it's a matter of preferance. Good Luck.
