You know what patching is? That's where you'll cover the rhizos that pop up through the top of the casing layer with new casing material to allow the rest of the rhizos that haven't come up yet a chance to catch up. This process will give you a more even rhizo coverage for a more even pin set, utilizing the entire casing layer. In other words, you'll cover the mycelium that's visable in your pic so the spots that don't have any mycelium can catch up. Anyways......
If you decide to let it go, simply allow the temps in your grow area to drop some if you want to stimulate pins. Like going from 80 to 75 in a couple of days. A 2 degree drop per day. This should get the rhizos to knot up.

That looks like some nice forming primordia, not overlay. Overlay is going to have the appearance of clumps and be very rigid. Your casing layer should have been a little more than just a sprinkle, but you can always add some more after the first flush.
Remember, the casing layer is there to provide moisture and some protection. Catching a contaminate this late in the game is unlikely during the first couple of flushes. By the time you're into your fourth or fifth flush, contaminates may enter the environment.
Continue on with what you have. You'll be fine.

very nice for your first casing.. learn from your exp. and they'll keep getting better. i agree with augustin... add more casing after your first flush and you'll be good to go. peace d

Lets not forget he's using crubled cakes. IMO, crumbled cakes do not need a very thick casing layer. The substrate itself retains water well. A 1/2 inch casing layer is fine for brf.

hotnutz: i patched as soon as i saw myc poke through. at this point, i'd say the rest of the case has caught up with those initial breakthrough myc.

You should be in good shape. Don't worry. At this point the keys to good knotting are light and temperature drop. Soon as you see a good amount of knotting across the visible rhizos, start increasing your air exchage a bit. Don't over do the fanning or whatever type of air exchange you have. A swipe or 2 with the lid is all you need. Just enough to replenish the air in your fruiting chamber with fresh air a few times a day.
