So if I'm using pints of WBS, just fruit as a cake?

Let us know how it goes. You would be better off spawning to straw. If you are interested in growing oysters I would suggest going to mushworld.com, I think you have to sign up, then click on Handbook 1 on the left side of the page.

Interesing, I just assumed you could fruit as a cake after reading a couple posts with good results w/ PF style cakes. So your saying just spawn to straw then case?

Oysters are usually grown in plastic tubing with straw as a substrate. It doesn't have to be done this way, but it's most effective. Smaller bags would also work well. Check this out, http://www.mycowest.org/cult/i-grow/i-grow-1.htm Should answer most of your questions.

Straw, coir, or sawdust. Oysters need not be cased, but I would recommend simply trying to fruit wbs or any grain for that matter. Most who have tried oysters pf style have failed. Those who succeed have an excellent fruiting strain, thus their good results. RR

I am actually in the process of growing phoenix oysters and am going to case them in coir from BRF cakes (why not try it instead of guessing, right?). I will post my results in the growlogs. I'll see how it goes. If I fail at it, oh well, it'll still be fun. It is not necessary, but I'd still like to see it.
And roger is right, a lot of ppl who try it on PF cake do fail. I don't think it is successful because of the "excellent fruiting strain" but mainly, from what i've seen, failure is caused by trying to grow them in a terrarium.
Most of the grows i've seen of oysters on PF have been shitty due to C02 poisoning. There is a way to do it and be successful, and I think i've found that way. This casing i'm doing will show me if it is consistent or not.
basically the way i've done it, and it works out successfully for me, is to put them in the terrarium until you see a healthy amount of pins, them move them to room temp in an open air container.
This fixes the C02/FAE problem caused by terrarium growing. Oysters need much more FAE than active mushies and a terrarium, even with a coolmist, will not provide that. An example of one of my grows can be seen below.
I've done this about 10x's now on PF and have had equal results on all of my PF cakes. Xburn has also tried it this way and has had success.
All of my cakes were done from LC's.
