New to all this kind of stuff...
    #4551683 - 08/18/05 01:15 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I'm new around here. I've already posted in the hunting forums and I was thinking that if I can't find any or very little that I'll try growing them. It'd have to be discreet and I can't just have it laying around in my house. Does anyone know the best kind of discreet growing kit? Would I just have to get a growing kit and spores and I'm set? I'm just curious.

With a little creativity, Home Depot will be your best friend in a search for a grow kit.  If you buy one online, it will likely be much more money than if you made your own.  Everything you need like jars, BRF, verm, WBS, rubbermaid containers, perlite, poly-fil, and so forth, can all be found there, and for MUCH cheaper than you'd find it online.  The only thing you can't get there is spores, but I assume you know where to get those... :regularshroom:

As for the "discreet" part, that's the joy of making your own setup!  It's perfectly tailored to your needs for subtlety and stealth, because you designed it from the ground up.

And besides, don't we all learn things best by doing them?

I shop at Home Depot all the time and pretty much know where to find everything you need to grow, but I have never seen jars, BRF, or poly-fill at any Home Depot. Vermiculite is hit or miss as well.

Rubbermaid containers are also very sparse. The best source for Rubbermaid containers is Wal-Mart. Call around to a few stores before you go and try to do one-stop shopping at your local hardware store. You'll save a lot of time.

What you mean its a bad idea to grow at home? Prolly over 75% who grow medicinal/ edible mushrooms on the shroomery grow at home. That's why they are called "stealth" set-ups. If anyone see's it and asks, you just pull a little ingenuity out of your ass and say something like, "It's a hobby kit that I bought out of the back of Lawn and Garden Magazine", or some shit.

Think he means don't grow at home if you live with your parents. Because, it is illeagal in the U.S. and he is putting the owners of the house at great risk without consent,(most likely).

I don't think he is growing medicinal/edible mushrooms if he is hunting for actives.

Clutch, you catch on quite quick lol. Money is definately a shortage of mine, I've got to save up money for the Rolling Stones concert that I'm going to. Sorry, I had to pin that in there, but anyway, I'll consider making my own. I guess you're right, the best way to learn is by doing it yourself. It's just so hard though... lol

I don't like the idea of a 10 gallon aquarium. I'd like to keep it as small as possible. Maybe I'm able to bury it in the ground in the woods near my house or something. Anyone have any tips or guides? I'm lookinag at the ones here but I just can't really understand what to do. I keep updating this as I read more, but is it really necessary to have a grow tank? You can't just stick something in a pot or something and plant it? This stuff is so confusing.

the problem is to fruit, the mycelium culture you make is going to need a very humid environment, in the 90%+ range.. and unless you live in select places it's just not going to get that high unless you have a grow tank. i recently got styrofoam icechests at the grocery store that seem like i can use them with plexiglass on the lids and perlite to humidify and it's a pretty easy setup.. can put in a closet with towels over it when incubating and towels over all but the plexiglass when it comes fruiting time.. its definately worth the benefits unless you are growing somewhere you shouldn't be.

Let me direct you to one of the simplest, least confusing grow guides I found.

http://www.mycotopia.net/site/article.php?3.255

Use jars, as the are small. Follow this guide, gives you everything you need.
