kick ass violin player
old school bluegrass and texas swing and shit
he had a really unique style and could hit some insane notes

i realalized i was thinking of stephan grappelli not vasser clements when i thought he was dead already. hes similar old school violin. i think they did an album together.

well, a fiddle is actually different than a violin, notably in the flatter bridge, which allows for easier double notes.
Yeah, Vassar was great. He will be missed.

I never knew that, so Vassar played the violin, not the fiddle?

i was at his birthday party show this may, but he was serioiusly ill and it turned out to be a benefit. it was a great show at the tribeca, hosted by the zen tricksters.

It was good had people from all over the country there. Its ashame hes gone, but he wasn't doing too well.

violin and fiddle are the same instrument
the difference is strictly stylistic
classical=violin
celtic/folk influenced=fiddle

the words are interchangable though they denote slightly different things

while specific instruments may be more suitable for one style or the other there is no determining feature used to distinguish

a flatter bridge would make triple stops easier and double stops harder

m-w.com
Main Entry: 1fid?dle
Pronunciation: 'fi-d&l
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English fidel, from (assumed) Old English fithele, probably from Medieval Latin vitula
1 : VIOLIN

vassers instrument was whatever he wanted to call it
though i would call his style fiddle

trying to help stop the spread of dangerous misinformation about fiddles
