The joke itself isn't really much of a joke, it's about how the joke is told.
Saying the joke sucks doesn't really make any sense, it kind of misses the point.

this movie is a classic example of how out-of-touch hollywood is with America. I'm sure this joke gets lots of laughs at the friars club, but I just cant see the general populace getting into it.
Why do they always try to make 1 and 1/2 hour movies out of two minute jokes? I'm sorry, but Night at the Roxbury sucked, and so does this film.

It was made by Penn Jillette, out of his collection of tapes of comedians telling the joke. What the hell does that have to do with mainstream Hollywood? It's not made by a big studio, and it's obviously too vulgar for wide release.
Have you seen the movie, or are you just assuming that it's bad?

I just don't understand the rationale behind putting all that effort into documenting a dirty joke. And quite a bad one, at that. Hollywood tends to have its own little wierdo subcultures, and every now and then one of those subcultures gets projected into the spotlight and catches on nationally. I think this was a poor choice for the spotlight, and this little trend should have remained an in-joke for entertainers. Now, everytime I go to a party, I have to hear everyone's version of the joke. Its been about a month since I started hearing it, and its already really old.
and, yeah, unfortunately I have seen the movie. friend of mine got free tickets from a local indie theater. The only time I laughed was when Jason Alexander told it.

It's an interesting idea, something nobody's tried before. I don't know how well it works, I haven't seen the movie, but it's certainly worth a try, and it's definitely not a rehash of the same old cookie-cutter movie. The joke isn't even really a joke, the punchline is somewhat nonsensical. Complaining that the joke is bad misses the point of the whole thing.
I don't really understand why someone would criticize the movie as though it were the same old hollywood garbage, because it obviously isn't.
People should try new ideas, and do weird things with movies. Obviously some will work well, and some won't. It's not like there's a comittee of bigwigs that decides which movies are going to get some buzz, and which aren't. Nobody can control that kind of thing, the movie is doing well because people are talking about it. Not because someone chose to make it trendy.
Whether or not the movie is really good or not doesn't matter too much, it's excellent to see that out of the ordinary movies are getting wide distribution. Even a quirky, strange movie that isn't that good will open doors for really good films that would have otherwise been overlooked.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it was highly recommended by a friend who recommended seeing it in a theater where you can order a drink.
If you're a fan of comedy and comedians, the list of people in the movie will impress you. When you see a comedian live or on TV, they're not telling jokes, they're doing an act. This movie features comedians telling a joke has existed for a long time as a joke told by comedians for comedians.
I'd have seen it already if the release weren't so limited.
