There is a new TV show on the Sci Fi Channel to pander to paranormal buffs. This particular episode was on a mothballed battleship.
The tools they use?
A device to measure electro-magnetic spikes or "anomolies". As there is no demonstrable link to apparitions; this toy is totally useless. "Ooh, look! There is a fluctuation in a huge METAL battleship full of WIRES sitting in SALTWATER."
An analog tape recorder to collect EVPs (electro-voice phenomena). Here is Jimmy's voice followed by an unintelligible ghost voice. "Mrrgha shig mjksa."
"Ship! He said ship!"
"Yeah, I heard ship, too!"
Analog tape is notorious for bleed through; i.e. incomplete erasure of underlying tracks or sounds from an adjacent track being picked up by the ferro-magnetic heads or even occsaional radio signals.
"We heard footsteps and clangs!"
Team Leader to filmcrew, "Are any of you guys screwing with us?" (You gotta love strict controls.)
Here is one thing I never got: Ghosts go through walls, yet they interact physically with floors. Do they have special ghost shoes?
One unattended camera on deck bobbed up an down. That is certainly proof of a ghost and not a loose mount and breeze or wave motion.
The crew looks and speaks like a bunch of high-school drop-outs.
All in all: Swami gives two thumbs way down.

There was a take-off show called "Ball Busters", but it sounded too scary.

I am already working on an accessory idea I got from shroomism: it consists of LEDS and leather and is called a Photon Belt. 
Will have to think about the ghost shoes though...

HAHA yeah right on Swami. I didn't see that but I did watch some ghost segment on mythbusters or a similar show. They went into some place that was supposedly soo haunted, like some abandoned violent prison, I think. The had three of those electric detectors. They left the machines on for so long, and the only results they got after the whole day were insignificant enough to be attributed to the effects of the air. It was hilarious.
