Seeing God
    #4551596 - 08/18/05 12:45 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I have read many trip reports where people have felt close to coming face to face with God but no one actually does in the end. Has anyone put any thought into why we come so close and experiencea bevy of things but even stalwart God believers don't even get the chance to glimpse him/her/it?

Ah, but that's just it you see.  Some of the parts of the brain stimulated by a psychadelic substance are the same ones that are affected in a person deep in meditation or prayer.  If anything, we're the ones getting a glimpse of what some of the most devout worshipers feel very frequently, if not constantly.  Psychadelics of any stripe are merely a gateway to a realm perfectly accessible by a mundane mind.

But I betcha that most people never see the answers to life's questions in the wood grain pattern in their church pews, so maybe we have one on the organized religions of the world after all!  :headbanger:

I believe it's because "God" isn't something visible. God is being, god is everything around you, every moment of time and every fiber of space. And once you are able to understand that in the midst of a trip, the clear light...it just spreads into your mind.

God isn't visible... That would make god too defined.

God can't be defined within this Reality, this Reality is defined within God.  :strokebeard:

first of all the concept of god varies from person to person. personally i believe i became god during a trip, as in my belief, god = the cosmos.

I don't see God from a christian's point of view, but I do think God is present in everything.  When I have an experience that brings me "closer to god" it's very comforting and it happens not because I seek god but because god's already there.

potatoe potahtoe whatever... I believe that the same thing that got you here got me here.  :peace:

With me its mre of an ATOM and science type of thing, space and crap. So whenever i get those SPIRITUAL moments....mine are not religious in any way, mine are more of like everything and everyone in this life has a goal, without that ONE person or a thing this world wouldnt be the way it is. If that makes any sence

Just because you have a skewed defintion of spiritual, does it mean that the atoms and space that make up this reality are not spiritual?
Just because you reject a defintion, does it not mean you still deal with the same wolf in sheep's clothing.

Ahh our fluid language.

He is sometimes. And he is easily amused too, I think. He especially laughs when people give him the title of he, I would think.

i think that all of us are god, that the entire multiverse merely exists because people believe it does, and as long as creatures capable of thinking believe in god, he will be there, but if you dont believe in a god, you are therefore outside the domain of any god that is real to anyone else, but as long as something believes in a god, that god will exist

I believe seeing God is just a clarified sense of seeing yourself when your tripping. We were created in His image.

god and religion are merely a lucid interpretation for something we can't explain. like if you try to comprehend the vastness of the infinite universe, you just get to a point where you're mind goes blank and you realise it is uncomprendable.that power and scale is what i see god as - the underlying power and energy that energises and weaves together our universe(love?). It is by definitition something we can't understand. and because it's such a beautiful and awe-inspiring concept it we tie great meaning to it (there might be, and i hope and think there is). fate.

I think iv'e seen god, but the only reason i see it as "god" is because thats the label our species has given that "thing" that we can't explain. i certainly didn't see some old guy with a white beard. like, a banana isn't actually a banana, thats just the label we have given it. Y'get meh?

The one thing that i learnt from that experience is that there is only one thing in life we really need. faith. that dosen't mean going to church every sunday and doing ten hail marys. it means believing in yourself and having faith in the fact that as long as you just try to do the right thing and try to be a better person, the day will come when everything all makes sense and it will all have been worthwhile. believe it. peace. :yesnod:

You can try not believing in God and see how quickly that gets you "outside the domain." But, uh, God isn't so easily dismissed. He is there and staring at you in the form of the computer screen you are looking at, and whatever else your eyes decide to move to. You can dismiss him and think and delude yourself that "IT" is not there. These kinds of people live lives full of denial.
