Here is my first cake's first flush. this is my first grow ever so be honest hehe. there is a lot of myc around the base of the shrooms, is this dehydration.
well here's a pic of my casing. The myc is a little fuzzy compared to the cakes, but i let it sit for almost 5 days with no new colonization so i thought it was ready to birth. have i fucked up???
please help, i don't want to lose this casing. it's for the myc not for me, i really don't like seeing them unhealthy. i wan't these guys to live!!!

no, it's due to extra humidity, dehydration usualy results in bruised and slightly wrinkled cakes

just be patient, and tell us about your setup for the casing

oh yes sorry for the lack of info, i got impatient haha. it's a 60/40. i incubated it with loose suran wrap for like..2 weeks. it was like 4 PF jars of pink buffalo. It colonized to what you see in the pick within a week, but then just didn't do anything so i figured i'd birth it. incubation temp: 80*F in styrofoam incubator. fruiting temp and humidity: 70*F, 96% rH. it's definatly not overlay, the pic is decieving, it's actually really fuzzy and more sparatic than it looks. thanks

What a great pic man, awesome.
I have a question for you all though, when he is ready to harvest, should he pick the shrooms from the base where the myc is, or from the end of the myc on the stem? Just curious.

ok so you didn't dunk, no prob. did you let the substrate reincubate after you broke it up and before you cased it. this will give the myc a little time to heal itself after being ripped apart. once you see growth going good again then add your casing layer and reincubate. after this once you see the myc just starting to break the surface of the casing layer you should go ahead with fruiting. i have tried the patching and not patching of aggressive areas and don't see much difference in the pin sets but that could be due to my inexperience with doing casings on poo substrates. maybe.
your casing layer also looks to be a little bit dry, did you wet it to field capacity before you applied it? are you giving any kind of misting?
peace

like i said earlier, it's Pink Buffalo. It's been in the FC for about 3 days...the rH in there is a pretty constant 94-96%

only 3 days in the fc, yeah give it some more time. maybe mist that casing layer a little more so it doesn't look so dry. don't saturate it, just keep it moist. best of luck peace

ok....if in fact it hasn't colonized fully i was wondering if there is any posibility i could stick it back in the incubator? it doesn't seem like that'd work since i've already given the myc signs to stop vegitative growth, but hey, just askin.

well what works one way will work the other. sure you can put it back into a veg growth. i don't think i would at this point yet though. give it some more time, you don't want your casing layer to be fully colonized anyway. relax, smoke one and let it be for atleast a few more days. peace
