hello my grandfather is new to the site, and by the way he loves it ,although not new to growing mushrooms. edible mushrooms until this point. he has hook up with a new girl who ask him to grow psilocybe cubenis, so being the good man he is, he complied.well he ordered a spore syringe from spore works. he started by pouring 20 dishes with agar let sit for 7 days with no contamination. he inoculated 5 dishes,2 dishes he just opened for 15 seconds then closed. 2 plates he just stuck the syring in agar with out enjecting spores. he does this so if he gets contamination he can see where he had problems ,was it in the air ,the syring or the spores itself.well after 4 days the 5 dishes with spores started germinating but soon became contaminated.the other 4 dishes were just fine leaving him to believe that the spores were contaminated. but to be sure he repeated the whole process with the same results. well now for his question, how would he let the spore works know about his problem since the spores he bought were for microscopic use only, and thought they may be able to send him some more spores. please help my poor old granddad

Send them a PM or an e-mail. Tell them you saw mold spores under the 'scope. They'll make things right with old granddad.

Read the faq's about "glove boxes". You really need one of those, so you can work without the risk of airborne contamination, which is what i think it happened ...

I have a flow hood and a whole lab setup, I usually don't have any problems with contamination's, that's why i do it in those steps so i can see where the contamination came from.all agar plates were fine except for where the spores started to germinate and then became contaminated. I e mailed spore works and ask them to read this thread. the next day spore works contacted me, and said they would replace the syringe, they were very prompt, and look forward to doing business with them again. and a bigger thanks to mockeylock for getting me out of a jam. Im kinda hook on this website .thanks everyone.
