im not sure where i read this, but i know it can be done. you can make a makeshift on out of a baby food bottle, cotton balls, and 70-91% rubbing alcohol. just hake a hole in the lid of the baby food can thing and pull some of the cotton ball up thru the hole and soak it in rubbing alcohol. dont worry it wont blow up. the the same concept as the lawn torches.

A better idea is to use a canning jar, so the plastic top doesnt melt.

You can pick up an Alcohol Lamp...pretty cheap on Ebay.
Or you can get one of those butane torch lighters...they work good.
Most of the time I don't even flame the needle on my syringes...
I just wipe the needle with some alcohol.

Been there, done that and don't recommend it. Almost torched my glovebox twice via the baby food jar TEK. The alcohol likes to spread to the entire top of the lid after a minute or two. I don't use a flame anymore either, just alcohol wipe.

just fold up a piece of paper towel place it on your stove top, saturate it with alcohol, but do not let get all over the place, light it, you have a ghetto alcohol lamp, or you can use the alcohol wipes in the foil packs, just tear it open in the middle, bend it like an inverted "V" & light it.

you still have to sterilize stuff when using a flowhood.
a flowhood really doesn't have much to do with this thread.

Yeah. Just do what I learned and incorporated from a very wise man named Magash. Take a sponge,(the type that you wash a car with, the kind with very small holes), Cut it to where you have 1"in wide strips, the same length as your needle. Then when you inoculate, dip them in alchohol and wringe out so they dont drip when squeezed. Slide them over your needle and VOILA!!! When u insert the needle into the jar opening, the sponge slides with it, and when you take it out, the sponge slides back with it and sterilizes it. Hell of alot easier than burning shit with lamps and lighters lol.

Yes, F using the candles.
I got one of these at Garden Ridge for two bucks. Works, but so cheap that I barely tapped it on the door and the damn thing shattered. Still trying to get that crap out of the carpet.
I now only sterilize using a torch lighter before the first hole/first jar. Then I use alcohol swab like RK does after all the other jars in that session.
So if you get a cheap one, be careful with it.
