In need of some Turn Table advice.
    #4545506 - 08/17/05 04:37 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I'm looking to pick up my first set of turntables.  I'm want to start mixing my tracks with it and just practice with them.  Whats a good brand I should be looking at?  I'm thinking about getting them used...need some advice!  :smile:Thank you.

how much are you looking to spend? if money isn't an issue, go with Technic 1200s.

but if money is an issue, or you aren't sure you want to be serious about spinning records, I'd look at some of the higher end Numark dirert drive tables. they are cheaper than 1200s and while they aren't on par with 1200s, I have had a pair of Numark Direct Drives (forget which model) for almost 4 years and they still work fine.

New Technics 1200s or 1210s.

Used Technics 1200s or 1210s.

There are no exceptions (unless you're a battle dj, then you can go with the Vestax PDX).

I agree with seethe, completely. I have two Numark DD's and I love em! But of course I am also remarkably poor, and couldn't afford Technics if my life depended on it.

Stanton direct drives are aso good to learn on. They're not quite the calibur of the tech 1200's, but they're still good. I learned on them before buying my tech 1200's and they were perfectly fine.

But if you have the money and you're serious.. yea.. Tech 1200's

Accept no substitutes

You MAY be able to find a pair on ebay or used from someone for as little as 700.

Don't be in a hury to go straight into turntablsm when you start. STEP 1 IS BEATMATCHING. Don't even touch your headphones for the first couple of weeks. Just play both records at the exact same time, preferably something with not too many melodies so the beat is really clear and try to match them up.

Make sure you get that down or else everything will sound like shit no matter how well you can scratch.

As a beginner it's all about

You might even get sick of a few of your records this way.
