I found some liberty caps, but they are kinda far away which makes it somewhat hard to access them. I took some back with their roots and some dirt on the end and attempted to transplant them in my backyard. they look fine at the moment. do you know if this will work? any tips? thanks!

The caps won't take root but they might drop some spores that will. A better way to transplant shrooms is to dig up some mycelium rich soil from the area where they are growing and transplant the soil. Save the fruits for better uses. Mulch the area with grass and keep it moist.

Not to be mean but you really are a newbie huh. Tradsitionaly one would take a spore print or even a tissue culture of a mushroom they wanted to domesticate. But actulaly what you did could work if you placed the mushroom on rich soil or a substrate it liked. but it is a long shot you should try and take a print and then then send it to someone who can isolate this strain from a contaninated print, I heard it helps to be cleaver with agar. Just take a print for now, Cut off stem, place cap on piece of foil about twice as big as cap (with gills down) and clover with jar or glass, leave in clean place for a few days, fold it up and mail it.

yes, I am a newbie, normally I just buy them from people, but about half the time the shit they give me doesn't even work... I'm not buying them too often anymore. Thanks for the advice, you guys helped a lot. luckily I live in oregon where it's legal to have possesion of fresh liberty caps, and let me tell ya, they are everywhere! that'd be cool if I got my own little MushieFarm growing in my backyard...lol.
