Cooling the fruiting chamber
    #4544582 - 08/17/05 01:14 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I live in a hot, dry-ass state, so I have to be sure to keep the humidity up, and the temperature down.

Well, the temperature is averaging out to about 81 in my house now, and I want to cool the fruiting chamber. The think I'm wondering is: if I put a frozen water bottle in the fruiting chamber, won't it suck all the humidity out of the air?

Thanks

I guess it would depend on the size of the chamber and the frozen water bottle. Just make sure that the bottle is very clean before placing it in.

Cooling down the chamber will invariable bring the humidity down.

Window AC units work wonders for this problem.

well, considering my financial situation, an AC unit is kinda out of reach. would you recommend the higher temperature (about 80 deg) or the lower humidity?

If nothing else is available, you could keep a few 2 or 3 liter soda bottles frozen and rotate them as needed. This works if you're in a pinch. It's not exactly a long term option, though.

next time around maybe get a vicks cool mist humidifier.with a hose to ur tub.get a timer and make it come on every two hours. works great with casings. but make sure you punch plenty of holes in ur tub and run poly fill threw the holes. no fanning required. just light 12on 12 off. don't open till it fruits. my two cents

I found this to work fine. I just keep them in rotation and it has in fact dropped my FC temp from 86 to 70-75.

As for polyfill, it's almost like cotton but it's the fake cotton. It lets air in and out but keeps contams out. Pretty cheap and can be found at craft/hobby stores, kmart, walmart, etc.

it is used as the pillow stuffing, or for stuffed animals.

I rotate frozen bottles too, and it does a decent job of maintaing a lower temp, but I don't notice a change in humidity. I can keep it at 96% pretty steady if I want.
