substrate too dry
    #4544184 - 08/16/05 11:47 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

when using pf or similar teks, what would be the result if there was a lower water to grain ratio in the jars from the time of sterilization? my guess would be less flushes due to moisture running out earlier. would there be any way to circumvent this (other than putting the right amount of water in in the first place)?

thanks

actualy if it's too dry from the start it may not fully colonize leaving you with
an incomplete cake, if you try fruiting it you'll end up with contams, and no
there is no way to fix it with out risking contamination problems

You can inject sterile water later.
I leave mine purposely dry so I can add large amounts of LC resulting in jars colonising very quickly.
These jars are 3 days after inoculation

I can see that being an LC, but considering it takes 1-2 days just to show some white, 3 days is really a stretch, especially with huge jars like that. What gives??

He said he used a LOT of LC. That is already growing mycelium, so you don't need to wait for germination to take place and with a large amount, it will take over the substrate fast. Works like a dream!

yea, bluefoot, just inject a bit of sterile water into the jars just as you would with the spores and it should solve your prob.

No tricks, no bullshit. I used to do multispore in badly incubated chambers and used to think these people with fast colonising stuff were bending the truth a bit. These photos were taken 3 days after, 72hours, I take all my pics in the morning for the best light. The photo looked better than the actual jar, usually it is the other way around, I was surprised at the rapid growth myself, strain is texan from www.spores101.com
