OVER INOCULATION, Lets see if it works

If you remember, I made a post 3 days ago called "over inoculation?". In that post, I told how I used 5cc's in a half pint jar, for a total of 6 jars and 3 syringes of 3 diff strains.Golden Teacher, Treasure Coast, And Cub b+.
Here is the update. The Golden Teacher jars are about 3% colonized, the Treasure Coast is about 1% colonized, and no signs so far with the Cub b+'s. The jars have so far been incubated at room temperature (about 76~F). I am using a heating pad to bring the temps to about 85~F. They have breathable filters, and I think the substrate is a mix of birdseed, millet, vermiculite, and oyster shell. I will update daily. Pics are soon to come hopefully. For now, Ill have to use my crappy webcam. The first 2 pics are of the Golden Teachers.

if you keep updating, then theres just one more grow log for a newbie to learn from. So id say yes. Also, have you tried to figure out a way to bypass the 2hr auto shut-off?

Bush or boobies? I vote for both. I got an aquarium heater off of eBay for very cheap, which would let you set up the two-tank incubator. http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7961 Then you can just set it and forget it.

I'm glad to see I didn't discourage you. People actually thought I was being mean to you in the other thread. That wasn't my intent.
It's not a bad idea to leave things be and see how they work out. Hopefully you will NOT get contams. But you never know, with the amounts of water you injected in your jars. How wet did the jars look to begin with? Because if they were a little on the drier side, they will have a better chance of pulling through. You can always dunk after they colonize if they are too dry.
Good luck!

I would continue updating the pics. Just don't overdo it and post pics every 2 hours. Personally from those pics, I really can't see much growth but I think 3 more days worth and it will start showing up in the pics as well
The only thing that can suck with over-inoculation is that you're adding a LOT of moisture into the jar (and such a small jar) with 5cc's of water. Just warning that it may begin colonizing but bacteria may overgrow and pause the growing. I hate being halfway through colonization and then it stops. I give it a few weeks, open the jar and BAM...the sour shitty smell hits me in the face. Hurts every time

Ok. Results of day #4. Golden Teacher jars are showing nice growth.Seeing nice strandy "ball" myc in Treasure Coast about the size of a pencil lead. No noticeable difference in the Cub B+ jars.

Day 5 after inoculation. The pic of GT is bottom of jar.As of now, it is the most colonised. The Cub+ surprised me today. Starting to see evidence of growth on them finally.

Moisture content is very important to speedy colonization too wet and contams will have the advantage. Growers should always strive to optimize there conditions in the favor of the shrooms. Did you make a mistake is that the reason for the thread? Get the most bang for the buck and do more jars next time with the syringe that way when/if one contams or whatever you'll have a nice reserve and hopefully some extraordinary speedy jars as well. GL

maybe a way to aleviate the annoyance of having to babysit your heating pad, you could plug it into a time set on a 1 hour on 1 hour off setting and wrap your jars with bath towels to help trap in heat. i did this with my cakes and it kept it at a steady 80-84F, which was fine with me. ideally there are better ways to incubate, but if your using a heating pad, and wanna try to bypass the shutoff, this might be your way.
oh and yea, shave it all off

Trouble with that is you'll lose one of your pinning triggers (temp drop) which will result in less than perfect pinset. I'd recommend putting them in a light tight container and place it on top of your fridge, that should help alot. GL

Not to sound like a brown noser Hyphae, But I just love it when you reply to one of my posts. Now, as to the light situation. Are you saying that they should be light proof? Also, I cant put them on top of my fridge because I have 3 cats that just love to knock down and break anything made of glass. Also, I have 1 cat that I have to watch especially, because he just love's mushrooms and has stolen a stem once before and joined me on a trip.lol. I hope you post again here Hyphae.Or anyone else for that matter.

Agnostic. What you dont seem to understand is the fact that I didnt think I would get faster or better colonization by over injecting. This happened because this is my first attempt whatsoever at cultivating fungi. This was an avoidable incompetence on my part. This WAS NOT done on purpose. And no, I DONT feel stupid. I just chalk this little experience up as EXPERIENCE.lol. Thanx for the post anyway.

Light tight being a cardboard box, suitcase, etc; something your cats can't move will work. As far as fuckups I've had more than my share and others as well all chalked up to learning experiences and were invaluable to my truely understanding whats what in this world, no rose colored glasses here. It is kinda scary that the majority of the people in the US as well as certain other countries live in there own little reality not seeing man for what he is, and never getting a chance to see basic instinct at it's finest.
