i used to work at a tofu/tempeh shop. I always thought of making the tempeh as similar to growing mushrooms, in that you're innoculating a substrate (in this case soybeans and grains) with a fungus, which then colonizes, and even fruits if you let it go too long or it's too hot (lots of black tempeh in the summer, eww!) anyway, I always was amused at the idea of making psychedelic tempeh, tho i don't know if any strains or active species would take to soy...

I'm sure they would. Soy does sound like a good substrate because of all of the nutrition.

I've seen pictures of RogerRabbit fruiting Cubensis on a quarter pound of dank. Also he fruited a bible. So I imagine lots of things would work, you just gotta have the time and insanity to test them.

I've seen posts here where people have used soy flour. I seem to remember it didn't work as well as one might hope. But you might have better luck with it using the whole bean and different strains etc... who knows. Soy peptides are used in some commonly used mushroom agar recipes so soy must contain something that mushrooms like. I remember a post a while back where someone used mung beans and it worked pretty well. The mycelium seemed to eat it up.

Pretty much any grain can be used as a substrate as long as the grains sheath is still in tact. When it's been cracked or unsheathed it will turn to mush...literally.

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate
