Only two ways I can see this possible:
1. People commonly use marijuana while partaking in other drugs
2. Some people get a little too high and freak out

when i went in the hospital awhile back, a cop caught a 15 year old smoking, and he flipped out because they thought he was gonna charge him (and they never did, fyi).. so he said his tongue was swelling and demanded to go to the ER.
i'd imagine shit like that, along with a little bit of lies via whoever that source is, plus people flipping out

It doesn't cause them... That's just what they want you to think.
This is data gathered from "emergency room mentions" during "emergency room visits". I am party to this, in fact.
See, what happens is, you get taken to the emergency room or on an ambulance and someone will ask you, "Have you used any drugs in the last 24 hours" and you will be thinking of your life and say, "Fer shizzle, I smoked a fatty this morning... eight hours ago!".
What you've done now is added an "emergency room mention" for use of marijuana. This is how they gather these numbers.

do they gather statistics like those to compile propoganda with if you simply mention that you use it when you fill out normal check-up forms?
I never fill the drugs sections out on my forms... but just by sheer number of marijuana users alone that could also present problems when given to people who are in the business of lying with statistics.

way more than 5 times if you factor in people that were injured as a result of alcohol related stupidity.
i did a google for: alcohol related er visits, 2001 and the first two sites are about ecstacy and one of them is the DEA.
bullshit!

Let me guess.. You use marijuana and smoke it?
If I should smoke a blunt (or lessay pure weed in a pipe) I would be hit by an acute Angina Pectoris (cardiac suffocation) attack that would come about between 5-15 minutes after lighting up and would stay with me fifteen minutes to an hour.
If I should smoke a large amount of cannabis I might be up for another heart attack.
The only thing that deserves ridicule, Jabbawaya, is the blatant ignorance of the cannabis lobby. And yes, it kills people. Read the link in the post you found so ridiculous.
.. Oh and posters above: dont confuse "the DEA" with TheDEA.org, the former is shite, the latter an excellent harm reduction website.

thats exactly it. marijuana is used so much that when there are problems caused by other drugs the person is very likely to have also smoked marijuana. also people freak out

As previously mentioned, alcohol appears in far more mentions than any other drug... It's also legal, so people may feel better about mentioning; however, I wouldn't doubt that it is much more a contributing factor in the cause of ER visits than when other drugs come up mentions... This is NOT to say that all or even most ER visits where other drugs are mentioned are PURELY mentions and not part of the cause... I just personally feel (through my research) that alcohol is an actual cause and mentioned more often than the others.

Alcohol is probably one of the most abused drugs these days, and always has been, if I am not mistaken. Also, some cannabinoids have been shown to be neuroprotective and others might even fight cancer... Research has shown that cigarette smokers that do not smoke marijuana get cancer more... And *supposedly* it is very very rare to hear of a marijuana-only smoker getting smoking-related cancer.

Yes, I do, and I do.

If I should smoke a large amount of cannabis I might be up for another heart attack.
Then you should not smoke a blunt (or let's say "pure" weed in a pipe) let alone a large amount of cannabis.
