Is Love the Answer?
    #4542937 - 08/16/05 05:51 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

It seems to me that nothing we do as any ultimate value (beyond relative measurements) and that life is just some kind of mechanical and even absurd process of conscious energy. As far as I have experience there isn't really a God or source of outward spiritual energy or fulfillment aside from our own minds which are again just identity-less computers. So I wonder what makes our lives satisfying, and what is really the point of living. Most of the stuff we try to achieve or acquire are illusions of our minds. I am left to wonder, what matters, what justifies our existence, and what makes us feel fulfilled in a vast and illusory universe?

I've heard alot of people suggest that love is the cosmic force behind everything and is the thing that fulfills our lives. Is this true? As a fairly solitary person I have no idea, but I feel there has to be SOMETHING more to this existence, or at least something that really matters (even if nothing really does in the absolute sense). Is this love? What is this big idea about? Or is it all just a joke?

The backround music is really powerful.

Lyrics for Love is the Answer by Todd Rundgren

Name your price
A ticket to paradise
I can?t stay here any more
And I?ve looked high and low
I?ve been from shore to shore to shore
If there?s a short cut I?d have found it
But there?s no easy way around it

Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free
Love is the answer

Who knows why
Someday we all must die
We?re all homeless boys and girls
And we are never heard
It?s such a lonely world
People turn their heads and walk on by
Tell me, is it worth just another try?

Tell me, are we alive, or just a dying planet?
What are the chances?
Ask the man in your heart for the answers

And when you feel afraid, love one another
When you?ve lost your way, love one another
When you?re all alone, love one another
When you?re far from home, love one another
When you?re down and out, love one another
All your hope?s run out, love one another
When you need a friend, love one another
When you?re near the end, love one another
We got to love, we got to love one another

Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free
Love is the answer

well, we are all concious beings in this crazy dream of ten thousand things, and that in itself may be devoid of meaning, as you say. SO meaning must come from how we relate or interact with other concious and unconcious aspects of this reality.

I would propose that there are an infinite number of ways we can relate to each thing in our experience (people, places, situations, objects etc) ranging from hatred, disgust, to amusement or love.

I would propose that the highest or best or most fufilling way to relate to anything is through a state of love. Meaning, if it is to be had in this world, must inevitably be self created or self discoverd. Therefore, to find meaning in your life, you could do worse than seeking to relate to your experience from a state of love.

When we can love our lives and the things in it, we no longer feel that life is empty of meaning, far from it. Even one object of love, be it a pet or friend or poem, brings light into our lives, but greater still is a state of love in which all things in our experience are viewed as holy, precious and joyfull.

Love gives people meaning, but meaning is not necessarily an answer. Love may just be an effective anaesthetic to depression and eternal uncertainty.

"Love may just be an effective anaesthetic to depression and eternal uncertainty. "

or

love may just be a infinitely preferable alternative to depression and eternal uncertainty?

So, do you just propose this way of being, or do you practice it?

well looking at it another way the meaningless gives us freedom. it makes our lives a playground, we choose to take them seriously. kind of like a video game. self existant bliss/happiness is the answer to suffering ( happiness being the sole reason for love). lasting bliss cannot be a delusion or merely an aneastetic because if it is, who cares? it's bliss. it's inherently good. its the only good. our concepts of good and bad are derived from it. when you are at peace questions of meaning and purpose no longer arise.
