Storing dried San Pedro
    #4542399 - 08/16/05 02:58 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I hacked off two of Saint Peter's arms, chopped them up, and now they are cracker dry in the food dehydrator.

I'm not going to be able to start the extraction for about another week or so. What is the best way to store dried cactus chips so that they stay good and usable?

I would assume any cool and dry place would do..... I think moisture would be your biggest enemy(IE: eventual rot or mold)

A dresser drawer, kitchen cabinet, closet, etc should be fine...nothing special...

Now to add to your question: How long can dry pedro be kept before the actives break down? Years? Months?

They'll last a good while without any special care taken. Just keep them in a relatively dry place. For long term storage, put them in an airtight jar with a few desiccant packs. Mescaline is a stable molecule. Years wouldn't be out of the question.

By the way, what temperature was it dried at?

If they're cracker dry, you can probably store them in a drawer almost indefinitely.

You didn't by any chance take the weight of your freshly cut cactii arms and the weight of the dry cactus chips, did you?

I'd love to know just how much water is stored in the cactus.

Thanks guys, they're cracker cracker dry.

And Bwalker, I dried them at 90 degrees at first (which is what I usually dry my mushrooms at) and then once they were pretty dry I turned it up to 125.

Opps, sorry, didn't weigh the cuttings.

Thank again.

Okay, I have:

38 dried grams of cactus matter

And this was from about four feet of San Pedro.

Do you think this is enough dried cactus to work with? (for several doses of mescaline?)

Should I go ahead and dry more cactus? I have a few more limbs I can hack off.
