Sell Car and Get Bike? What Should I Do?

I am considering selling my car and finishing paying off this Specialized Hard Rock I have on layaway and just use that to get around. The thing is, I live about 10 minutes by car from the grocery store, so double or even triple that on bike. There is a bus system that comes pretty close by so I could use that but you know how getto the bus systems are. Not to mention I live in a semi-getto.
The thing is, I am broke with no job and need money to pay rent. If I sold the car for say, around $1000 I would have money for rent plus I could pay off the bike and I could always use the bus to get around too. But I know this would really suck even though it would be good exercise, and eventually the money will run out and then what??
I know I know I should just get a job which is what I hope to do. I already filled out 4 applications today, they need to call me like tomorrow, but I am going out again to get more. Where can I make $500 within 2 weeks?

Cars are the devil, but they're also a necessity.

True, but I'd rather pay a little more and be able to carry a trunk full of groceries.

I'd say do it. You will be in better health and kill off some lazyness. Oh and keep your house.

I could just pack all the groceries I needed in my backpack. But the fact remains that I might possibly need to get a job sometime after selling the car so then I would have to ride my bike, which means I would be sweatin' to the oldies when I got there. I'm still weighing the options.....

Don't forget how much you'll save by not having to pay car insurance or, more importantly, pay for gasoline (it's going to keep going up in price...).
I've actually never had a car. I bike, walk, or use public transportation for just about 100% of my needs.

You should get a moped.

I know the insurance is another thing I would love about not having a car. I was thinking about you when I made this post trendal. I know you ride your bike everywhere. But I guess you are used to it. I have always usually had a car, so it might be hard to get used to not having one.....

Well until a month ago I didn't have a bike either, going back about a year and a half. I'd been walking/carpooling/busing it everywhere. Finally I decided it was time to go out and get a bike again!
I did so, and it was damn hard the first week I decided to ride to/from work every day...but after a week or two I got used to it. Doesn't take too long to get back into shape if you ride 10-15km a day or more.
