Pros:
alot more substrate so alot more shrooms.
about the same colonization time.
more flushes.

Cons:
Not for the beginner.
Must be Pressure Cooked.

hope this helps.

BeppoMarx,
Hey man what substrate did you use when you boiled your quart jars? My friends Parots pet lizard uses Rye grain and sometimes Birdseed and he was advised to always Pressure Cook these substrates. Thats what I thought you where talking about. let me know

well the ones i did this morning were mostly BRF/verm, but i kinda ran out of flour and added some whole brown rice and rye flour to it... the only other quarts ive tried before were birdseed/hay cobb and i did half in the microwave and boiled the other half again for just over an hour. i always fill the water almost up to the metal band on the jar and cover the pot. all of these above mentioned jars never caught any contams. i guess time will tell on the ones i did today and yesterday but im pretty confident that they will be ok as far as contams go. now if i could only get the mycellium to grow in these jars.....

I wish I would have know so I could of advised my friends pet monkey not to buy a pressure cooker but he has already invested in one and has been using it for over six months now but thank you for the response BeppoMarx.
