hey wutup everybody. i jus ordered mah spores from "lil shop of spores." GREAT service i received them very quickly. i'm using pf tek method. after i innoculate, should i keep the lid tight and should i keep the holes taped? also, if i should ever loosen it (before i have to take the cake out ofcourse), then when should that be? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot people.

Yes! Keep the lid tightly screwed and the have the holes taped.
If you ever wish to loosen the lid do it about 1 week after the mycelium begins to form. I never losen the lids though, just my thing.

ok cool thanks a lot. i JUST finished innoculatin and now mah lil jar is chillin. i'm so PROUD, MAH FIRST JAR! i hope it works. question: someone told me that if i kept the lid on tight the whoel time, too much CO2 builds up, and thas not good..wut do you think? also, how do i kno when the cakes ready to come out? and that'll take about how long? and how long will it take till i FIRST see some mycelium, as i said i jus innoculated today. ok thanks a lot bro. peace.

If you leave the lid tightly screwed C02 will build up... it will only slow down the mycelium growth. I don't notice much of a diference so I just leave the jar closed and shake it once in a while. What do I think? If you want to speed up things a little bit.. go ahead and open the jar a little in a nice and sterile location.
The cake is ready when it is fully colonized. It will be fairly obvious because everything will be covered with mycelium duh =) You should start seeing mycelium growth within 3-7+ days. The cakes should be ready within 1-2 weeks if all goes well.
Hope everything goes well... but why just one jar? Make 50 of them! lol

... you didn't happen to inject a whole syringe in one jar?

spiralmix....hahaha..thanks for the help. hahahaa and yes i'm goin to innoculate another jar today, cuz the one jar i ahve now seems lil lonely hiding in the dark. and also to the last poster, why would i inject the whole syringe? all i need is 1-2 cc's, any more might speed up germination, but then i have less to make more jars. peace.

You only need .5 - 1cc per jar (but I guess that's all personal preference). I use a 12cc syringe per 10 jars. You know to birth the jar when it's totally covered in mycelium (100% colonization). Some people wait for pinning to begin while in the jar because it's supposed to help get a large first flush. Sometimes, however, it wont start pinning while in the jar so I always birth as soon as I reach 100%, or within a week afterward. Then I just keap them flushing until the cakes loose all their nutrients.

Of course you shouldn't squeeze a whole syringe in one jar.. I just wondered because you only made one jar.. heh.
Hmm.. 2 days... around the 3rd day you should start seeing fuzzy see-through cloudlike mycelium... looks like condensation but you can tell it's not because it is only located in the locations where you squeezed the spores into.
Goodluck!
