I need help

I need to figure out what I am going to do with my life and my career.
There are several things I could do:
1. Open my own business 2. Go to work 3. Go back to school 4. Join the military
I looked into opening my own business (I was thinking of a bar or a restaurant) and the startup costs are somewhat staggering. I did inherit some money, but not enough to cover all of the usual startup costs of a serious business. I would have to go deeply into debt to start one up and I don't think I have the work history or the credit history to get serious loans from the bank. I have some family members and friends who have money, but I don't know how comfortable I would be with borrowing such large amounts from them.
The only thing I am qualified to do right now is work on computers. I had a computer business for several years and I made decent money with it. But, I hate fixing computer problems and I refuse to do it anymore.
I could go back to school, but I don't really want to. I went to college for two years and I loathed every minute of it. If I went back to school I would probably pick a technical school where I could be in and out relatively quickly and have a steady job waiting for me. I went to college for electrical engineering, so if I were to transition into a technical school program I think the electrician field would be best. I probably know all of the basics and would just have to memorize some codes and stuff. Does anybody know an electrician? How hard was the training? Does the job suck? Does it pay well?
Or I could join the military. I would probably want to be a grunt in the Army I think. That sounds like the hardest but most satisfying military job.
I need advice! Please help!

I drink about 1 beer a week (usually with a dinner), so that isn't a problem. Why is $$$ a problem with bars? The ones around where I live are always full of people. I assume they make decent money.

restaurants and bars deal in cash alot
you have to trust that no one is skimming....and they do
a free beer here, not ringing up something there.....etc

I would say go to school, that could also give you more time to think about what you want to do with your life.

I hate being stoned almost as much as I hated college. I haven't smoked in years.
Yeah...but what do I do if I went to school? I am really not interested in anything that can earn me money.

I am of the opinion that if you don't know what you want to do then school is a waste of time and money. If I could go back in time and never go to college I would do it in a heartbeat.
I wasted two years and tens of thousands of dollars when I went to college last. And frighteningly enough, I actually was really interested in electrical engineering at first and I did well. Then I got bored and sick of it. I'm afraid that I will lose interest in a course of study again.
I just wish I could win the lottery or that my "destiny" would slap me right in the face so I wouldn't have to do any searching and wondering.

You need to find your niche. Something your good at and something you enjoy.
I know how you feel though man cause I never really found that and now I work a job I don't really like but I have to stick with it cause it pays well. That's why I think you should go to school for something so you don't end up in the same boat.

I've already looked into that. Shitty investments yield about 4-6% a year. Good ones yield 8-10% a year (but carry more risk). The amount of money I have is not enough to completely invest it, live off of the proceeds comfortably, and keep up with inflation.

Well, if I went for the infantry then that possibility could easily happen. I don't know if I have the body for the infantry though (I'm 5'7 140 pds.)

You could join the air force and become an apprentice electrician. When you get out you can go to whatever college you want, or just become and official electrician.
If you do join any military branch, join the air force. It's a little more relaxed

yea but you're like 20??
invest 80% of it with proceeds rolling over into reinvestment..put it in a trust that you CANNOT touch for lets say 10 years...(personally I'd go for 20 years)
then you'd have some money just pertend you never got it...what were you going to do before?
or have you always counted on getting this $$$$$$?

But that doesn't answer the question of what I should do right now.

I had no idea what I was going to do before either.

I knew it was coming. I think that realization might have made me a bit lazy about my future plans.

For many people (myself included), it ain't easy to find. But try to find it anyway. If you want big cash doing something you like, your gonna need that fancy book learnin! Unless of course, your one of those people that fall ass backwards into money which you probably aren't.

College is only useful if you go for a lucrative degree at a good school and you get good grades. I know plenty of people who have college degrees and they work at shit jobs. All of the people I know who went to technical school earn very good money.

That's right, many people do have college degrees and work shit jobs. But the odds are against you if you don't have some skills. You mentioned technical school. This is another good option. I was going to go to technical school for small engine repair, but I backed out at the last minute. Wish I would have stuck with it. I'd be making much more money now.
