kind of freakin' out
    #4533894 - 08/14/05 01:20 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

yeah, i know...its only been 8 days since i colonized. i'm starting to see myc. in all 6 pint jars that i have (using pf tek with b+ spores) today, i noticed cobweb on one of the jars. i sanitized a surface area (by spraying 409 kitchen cleaner...its anti-bacterial and then following up with lysol spray) and opened the jar. it had cobweb growing in thick ass clumps. i read on here that a h202/water mix will take care of cobweb. i also decided to open up the other jars to see if they had it, too. sure enough 4 out of 6 jars had it. i sprayed them all with the h2o2/water mix and put the lid on them.

i'll cut to the chase and ask my question...

-besides the cobweb, it seems as if my myc. has stopped growing. for two jars, it seems as if they haven't grown at all for a couple days. i have the temp. at 80 degrees (the best i can do). what can i do to speed up the process (if anything) so my myc can overtake the cobweb...?

i'll have pictures as soon as i get my equipment for my camera

i know it sounds stupid...but i know you shroomery members really know your stuff. thanks in advance (again!)

Okay...
The cobweb mold you are seeing might be myc.
But, I was just curious. Did you put dry verm on top of the cakes before closing them?
Because adding dry verm works as an anti-contam barrier, and should help keep out contams when you remove the foil or tape.
There could be several problems with your colonization retardation.
IT may be due to insufficient temperatures, or that the jars need a small amount of air exchange.
To prevent the latter, try taking off the tin foil, or the tape.
Also, be very careful when opening the jars, as they are highly suseptable to contamination at this point from airborn intruders. Be sure to be wearing a surgical or dust mask, along with latex gloves, and try to find the cleanest place in your house.
Either that, or get a hepa filter in the room to reduce contam when opening the jars.

I agree with the above. It would be easier to diagnose the problem if we could see some pictures.

Are you saying it's been eight days since you inoculated, or since the jar has become fully colonized with mycelium?
Also, are you saying you opened an uncolonized jar and sprayed h2o2 in there to try to save it? possibly i am just not understanding.

if the "cobweb" didnt melt away when you sprayed it, then you just successfully sprayed your myc and possibly ruined your grow. You're better off when seeing a contam waiting a least a day. If its a contam it will spread like wild fire (especially cobweb)
