Possible setup for second batch-diagram
    #453275 - 11/09/01 06:47 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

Well I'm done with my first 12 cakes-I had an 'alright' 2 flushes from most of them. Almost every fruit though, had a pretty limp stem so it seems for my next batch (which I'm innoculating for tomorrow) I should concentrate on air exchange. I only had a small hole at the bottom originally, as the MMGG suggested, and it was apparently not enough. Here is my improved idea "proposal".

The idea is to have the fan on a timer, so most of the time the terrarium is airtight, and when it does come on occasionally, it opens the hinged door, which has a rod or something connected to the other one and thus both open, so fresh air goes in and stale are goes out...can anyone see any problems with this idea though? Any suggestions? Input would be greatly appreciated-thanks!

stick with the original hole down below for air exchange... the Co2 is just gonna keep chillin' down there at the bottom...

Um what about if the fan was in the lid and blew downward? I don't think the CO2 is getting the right push outta there...I also say this 'cause once I started fanning like 2-3 times a day, the stems started getting fat and firm...

I would think (just a guess, apparently mcman knows a lot about air movment...) that having a fan suck the air out of the bottom might be the best bet *shrug*
