Anyone tried cloning an "Old Shoe"?
    #4530654 - 08/13/05 05:54 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

We've had some rain the past few days and I have a big fat cap on a stump in back of an "old shoe."  I've cooked up ones from past flushes, but I'd like to try to cultivate it.  I'm thinking just sectioning it and dropping the tissue into some malt/dextrose jars and seeing what happens.

It's a big f'in cap, and it's been outside, so I'm not sure how I should go about treating it before I put it into my glovebox and slice it up.

Any experience with this species?  Thanks.

wtf is an old shoe? anyways, sounds like you know what to do. the archives are full of how -to's. this forum is for gourmet and medicinals, so feel free to identify your mushroom to species.
goodluck

I tried to find the species name, but I couldn't track it down.  Anyway, here are some pics.  I'm going to try it.  What the hell?  Why not.

Great photos

I have no idea what that is...But it's cool that you're cloning it.

It looks like Polyporus squamosus, dryad's saddle. I tried to clone, will try again next spring. I'ts not bad when very young, it's very bland
though.

Well, I've got five jars of malt/dextrose solution with chunks of tissue sitting in them now.  I'll keep this thread updated if anything super wicked sweet happens.  :smirk:

Update--looks like a couple of the jars are showing growth.  I will post pics when and if the mycelium is more apparent/substantial for digi pic posting.  :sun:
