Paying money for non-cube spore prints in N.Florida .
    #4529990 - 08/13/05 11:34 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I'm on a hunt for shrooms in North Florida. I won't be able to get down there until at least the end of September. So I was hoping someone in Florida could go out and look for me and I'll pay for uncontaminated viable spore prints. Here's what information I've been able to gather so far.

They are classified under the names:
Omphalotus Olearius
Clitocybe SUBilludens

Their common name is:
Jack O' Lantern (they glow in the dark)

Here are some pictures:

These things apparently grow everywhere but I'm only interested in the ones that grown in N. Florida and the Canary Islands. That's Where the "sub" in "subilludens" comes from. Because they are a subspecies that only grows in these two places.

Let me know if you guys can dig up anything.

I'm not in FL., but I come across these from time to time. If you would like, I will keep this thread saved and I will let you know when I find some.
As for sterile prints, well seeing as they are wild... but a culture will work.

peace

As far as I know, the ones I want only grow in N. Florida in the general vicinity of Canary Island Palms that I believe look like this...

I could be wrong about how the palms look but that's what google turned up.

I did actually want to ask for a culture but I didn't want to put anyone through all that extra work. So I was just asking for prints for simplicity's sake as long as they're collected in a manner that will keep contamination to a minimum. And sure, I guess it couldn't hurt to try some from other places but the ones from N. Florida are definitely preferred.

Appreciate the help guys.

I find Jack-O-Lantern's ALL THE TIME. They don't glow in the dark, it's a load of shit. Every time I find them I sit in the dark for like 30 minutes looking at them like an idiot. They don't glow in the dark.

Well, I've never actually handled these shrooms so I don't know for sure if they glow or not. I've only seen pictures of them glowing. Everything I've read says you have to take them into a completely dark place like a closet to see the glow. I'm not after them for the glow anyway, so that's ok if they don't.

These are poisonous so don't eat them if you do happen to find some.

they only glow in the dark when sporulating, O. illudens glows more than O. oilivescens.

This thread has been closed.

Reason:
This thread is over 4 years old... not to mention, it is ridiculous.

And for the record, the gills definitely luminesce.  Less than a month ago (on Thanksgiving) I dragged some folks out after dark to collect some O. olivascens, and they were definitely impressed by how bright the green glow was, even after only a few seconds of standing in the dark.

Not all collections (of O. olivascens) glow quite as strongly as others, but most glow pretty bright!
