What the hell is wrong with my feild???
    #4527001 - 08/12/05 03:44 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

It rained a couple of days ago and I can't find anything. The last 5 times I've gone I've found nothing. The farmer cut the entire feild a month ago could that be it?

I live in Houston by the way and everyday it's 100 degrees could that be it also?

Yeah maybe its because of the heat... Just because he cut the grass shouldnt mean anything

I'd say a combo of heat and the cut grass.

Taller grass will trap humidity in the blades. If the grass is cut, the humidity is lost and the mycelium dries up. It'll probably fruit once it cools down and starts to rain a good bit. I wouldn't say all is lost.

If you rip the shrooms out instead of clipping them, this SERIOUSLY damages the patch and it won't fruit NEAR AS MUCH. You will get like three times the mushrooms from a spot if you cut them with a knife instead of ripping them out.

I can tell you...

In the last three Month's we have had almost no rain! Compared to our normal summertime rain schedule.

By this time of year we should be in the high 20's to 30 inches.. With a annual rainfall in the mid 40's to 50 inch's..

This year we are about 10 inch's below the average. We have had a Drought!

The ground has been parched.. When the soil gets parched it takes more rain over a long period for the ground to absorb the water and for the water to be available to the Plants Fungus, Whatever..

We wont see a Mass amount of mushroom growth in tell we get at least a solid weeks worth of rain spread out over a week to a week and a half... But even then once the sun pops back out and the air gets hot you will see the numbers of mushrooms decrees once again..

But remember we are not in our wet season!
Come October November when its still sticky and some what hot we will see lots of them sweet beauty's!

Oh,You can still find mushrooms.. You just need to watch the Rain and be sure it hits your spot.. You know how our summertime showers can be.. I have seen 2 inches of rain in the next neighborhood if you catch my drift there!

if they are bailing it for hay then I'd agree, if they just leave it laying as I do on occasion the it will trap more moisture
