im at a lost
    #4529573 - 08/13/05 10:13 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hello all, I'm at a lost with growing so far all I have done correctly is get the jars to fully colonize and contaim free. But when it comes to fruiting that's another story. I have used a cool mist I have tried a ultra sonic I tried both together. I am now trying perlite. I have bought 2 different gages a cheap one and a expensive one. But I still cant get humidity past 65% no matter what I do. I have a digital hygro/thermo with a inside and outside function wire. But it reads the same humidity inside the chamber as the outside also how can this be??? What am I doing wrong ??

If you are using perlite, properly that is, I find it hard to believe the humidity doesn't go above 65%

Check your wire. I have a fairly expensive therm/hygrometer set up but the wire only measures the temp. Not the humidity. This might be the case, especially since you say it reads the same inside and outside the box, I really find that hard to believe. That the perlite wouldn't effect the humidity at all

gotta agree with HC, i have never had a prob using just perlite getting the rh to 95% and above. either it is the temp probe you are using or it is a malfunctioning meter.
peace

i made the perlite moist in a strainer and made it moist and then I drained all the excess water out of it then I put in a 56 gallon container 1/2 inch thick.

56 gallon container @ 1/2" thick, you might want to add another inch or two on top of that 1/2". that thin of a layer in a terrarium that big will dry out rather quickly imo but it may not.
do you have any condensation on the sides or top of the terrarium?

peace

Typically the Hygrometers you can get cheaply have the RH sensor on the unit it'self. Therefore the meter will only show you "inside" RH. Put the meter directly in the terrarium then check it. I bet it will show you the RH is more than 65%

you'll be alright beanz

i put some perlite at the bottom of my incubator cause the jars had dried out. it said i only had 50-60% RH, but within a day or two the jars had mass water droplets on the inside so its all good. awesome job on pulling off no contams!

if you have condensation all over then your rh is definitely way higher than 65. you are alright.
hopes for a good flush

ok good, so then as long as the perlite is moist and in a seald tub then it should be fine right. dont belive the gages. and keep temp on inside around 70-78

I think your worrying to much about your guage..dont sweat humidity so much man...this is a closet, with a tarp hung up..no humidity source, except misting a few times a day:

Fresh air is far more important! Just keep it nice and moist in there..you can tell if its nice and moist..if it is, forget the guage...

Ok I will try not to worry so much about it but I still think I need too. Every where I read says humidity is like the biggest thing make sure its at the right % it needs to be. I just dont know but I will stopwondering and worring for this week and see what happens.
