Well it finally happened. Just got home from a bike ride where I noticed a station that had just raised their price to $1.003/litre! All the other stations were still at $0.998/litre though.

I think there have been some very telling stories in the media lately where they have strongly hinted towards the possible peak in oil production.
However I am quite positive that no one wants to be the first to break the big news. I doubt we will ever see a headline on CNN saying "Oil has Peaked!" until well after it has happened - and after it is already blatantly obvious to the man on the street. The MSM will not inform us about Peak Oil...they will wait to confirm the reality of Peak Oil to us after we have already accepted it.
For much the same reason, I don't expect we'll see any world-leaders standing up to say "Hey, the party's over!". I doubt Bush, for example, would want to go down in history as the man who broke the economy with his news of oil shortage.

Yeah it's been cheaper over here for quite a long time.
You guys had the right idea all along: raise taxes to curtail usage.
Unfortunately our governments are of the mind that "give them their toys...and they won't argue back" so we get our little toys to play with - at our own expense of course.

When I was out in BC back in May, gas prices were averaging around $1.05 in the city (in the country they were like .85), I saw them as high as $1.12.
So we're still fairly low. The prices do tend to go up in the summer anyways. I think prices should be increased, to try and discourage driving. Jack 'em up to $2, and hop on your bike.

everythign cost alot, the smog is bad, alot of crappy people, trash everywhere all over the streets/freeways, etc etc
id rather move to oregon, i like that weather better, nicer people, fresh air and lots of rain which equals alot of shrooms

In a years time Oil will be down to around $45-$50 a barrell
|
