P. semilanceata or not?
    #4525462 - 08/12/05 03:38 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all!

I found about 200 of these mushies on a golfcourse yesterday. They were growing mostly in groups in the grass, just like Liberty Caps as far as I know. There had been a lot of rain in the past 4 days. In my opinion they look like Panaeolina foenisecii but I want to be sure before I throw them away

As you can see, the nipple isn't really visible. The caps' size varies  from 1cm to 2,5cm. The size catchs my attention, they feel a bit too big to be Liberty Caps. Also the shape of the cap feels wrong, like way too flat! The younger ones have more a shape of a bell. The maxium length of one's stem is about 9cm. The gills are in a very aligned order. Some had more whiter gills but most of them have dark brown gills. Now that they have dried a little, the colour is pretty clean white and the shape hasn't really changed.

Thanks in advance!

These are not liberty caps. Did you take a sporeprint?

Yeah, got the sporeprint now: it's somewhat dark brown.

These were found in Finland if it does any matter :>

dark brown? if they are jet black they are active panaeolus subbalteatus. but you say brown? that would mean you were right about them being panaeolina foenisecii.

subbs rarely grow on lawns, and foes are well known in golf courses.

Yes, they're foens. Habitat, appearance and spore print match up perfectly.
