jaw problems
    #4524025 - 08/11/05 11:54 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Ever sense I ate mushrooms, my jaw has been acting up. If I put my teeth close enough together I can feel it. My mouth involuntarily moves. Its like how you chew food, moving your mouth up and down. Its quite fast, and hasnt gone away sense I first ate shrooms. It hasnt gotten any worse, and its unnoticable unless i think about it.

I was wondering if anyone else has this happen to them. I think its kind of cool to have because it happens very strongly when I start to trip. I also notice that when I first start tripping I slurr my words alot, and I ask people if they notice it. None of this happens to to people I trip with either.

Meh my buddy still hasn't grown his wisdom teeth in and he's 19.

Anyhow about the jaw thing...I've noticed that since I shroomed I clench my jaw a lot and grind my teeth when I sleep. Mind you it happened about a week after I did the shrooms so it might have nothing to do with it. I dunno about what you've got though I haven't heard of it.

Don't know if this helps but - A lot of the time when one grinds their teeth or clenches the jaw when they sleep it means their teeth are not aligning right and when they talk and eat they are straining their jaw. I had this problem and got it fixed by my orthodontist. Grinding/clenching your teeth when you sleep can kill your nerves in your teeth leading to more problems. They also make a mouth guard type thing specifically made to put in your mouth when you sleep.

How long has this been going on? Is it like when you are cold and shivering and your mouth starts chattering (for lack of a better word? When a friend of a friend of my goldfish took X they would grind their teeth but that is different from chattering. Is there any clicking noises coming from your jaw when you open really wide and close your mouth?

I'm 25 and I still havent gotten mine out. One of them has broken skin and one is trying to push through and has just recently been giving me a large amount of pain, so I am going to get it taken care of soon.

Back problems are way more problematic than jaw pain.

When I come up, my jaw tends to shake and clench involuntarily. I think that this happens because there is this new energy that doesn't have a route out. Since I started tripping outside, i can channel this energy into other things and think through it. Give that a try. On cubes, this clenching and chattering would occur with every rush (the rollercoaster come-up with cubes). Sometimes it gets so bad that it turns into dry-heaving. I really think it has to do with energy.
But, I realize your question is a bit different since you are having the problem even when you're not tripping. Was it a bad trip?

I think I've also heard the interpretation that psychedellic mushrooms cleanse the body and the loose toxins can cause physical symptoms.

Back and jaw tension happens.

The fact is mushrooms do not CAUSE the problems, but they can cause you to sit in odd positions for hours, or fail to realize you are clenching your jaw all night long.

This can cause discomfort after your trip.

I like to stretch during my come-up, and to stay as alligned as I can durring the trip. This helps me feel GOOD after the trip is over.

Most Westerners take poor care of their jaws and backs.

Also, a trip may shine light on tense parts of your body, people with clenched jaws and bad backs may not even notice their years of discomfort, until AFTER a trip.

While on lsd and mushrooms if i am quite high it feels like my jaw and eyes and stuff can get into this flutterness where they just got wild. Ive never had it not tripping hard.

My guess is shrooms just made you you notice this and think about it. Do not worry about it and try to not let it bug you.

Its not really a clenching thing, its a chattering type of thing. You know how when your really cold and your teeth are chattering? Its just like that its just unnoticable unless I think about it.

I've heard of people developing random tics after they did shrooms. It's quite rare but you may want to look into that
