Care for living weilii?
    #4523184 - 08/11/05 07:27 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I have a patch of weilii growing in my backyard. It's given me 8 fully mature shrooms so far, I was really just wondering if there was anything I could do to take better care of my patch. I know not to clip em until the veil has opened, and even then I like to wait for it to start to tear. Should I water in the morning and stuff of this nature? Tips?

Also I have more on the way, hopefully I can get pics. :stoned:

I'm no expert, hardly a novice; I would imagine ideally you would want to leave them alone and water them everyday, maybe twice a day. I'm so jealous, I still havn't found a weilii.

If you have the right grass I'll tell you what I did. Find them, and eat them in your backyard and trip so hard you puke everywhere! Seemed to work out alright. 2 weeks later bam.

two weeks after puking your patch started fruiting? I would think the acid in your stomach would be enough to kill the spores. and 2 weeks seems like too short of a time. I mean even given the right conditions I dont think those weilli went from puke-spore to fruiting in 2 weeks.

Maybee if you could find the right substrate you could transplant some mycelium for some nonsterile outdoor culture. Might be an interesting experiment anyway.

Well, this was like last September and my memory may be(is) a little vague. Weren't conditions great for weilii last year? Maybe it was longer because I remember it being colder when I found them, right where I puked.

it's probably best to just leave them alone and hope for more to fruit.

maybe a very light misting each day

yeah dude just water it and don't let the patch get too dry I was lucky like you and have a patch growing in my front yard. I just take the hose out there and let it run near the patch for 2-5 minutes to get the ground nice and wet. Mine keeps putting out every time it rains for more then 2 days. It will stop fruiting without the rain but don't worry they will come back as long as the ground has some water in it. Check out the south east thread for all my pics or go to weilii.com peace

dude, let me throw out some knowledge to ya. Mushrooms are a fungus which has a fungal body called hyphae. In order to reproduce hyphae and to keep mycelial growth, the grass needs to be steadily wet. If your grass is wet for longer than 12 hours approx., then the actual grass is soft enough to allow a fungus to enter through the cell walls. SO.... out of this its best to keep your grass wet longer, which goes to tell you, if its wet all night long becasue of the dew, and it dries out all day, then dont water in the morening where it will just dry out, but instead in the late afternoon, and then again right before dark. this way your grass stays wet from approx. 5 in the afternoon till about 10 oclock the next morning. spread em all over, with the right conditions, they will continuously fruit.. thanks to horticulture school.
