What shroom is this?? Looks magic!
    #4522154 - 08/11/05 03:23 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hi folks!
I would be very thankful if anyone will help me with identifying this mushroom.
It grows directly on cow-manures only, in the lowlands of Norway. It looks pretty much like a liberty cap, but it can't be. It dominates the area and is not that big yet. It grows in the forest and on roadsides, as long as there have been cows there. The description and photo of copelandia cyanescens is the shroom that fits the best. But it doesn't turn blue when touching it!!! And I'm not sure if the cyanescens grows in Norway.

Help anyone?!?!

If it resembles copelandia cyanescens, doesn't turn blue, and grows from cow dung, it would likely be some sort of inactive panaeolus, maybe sphinctrinus, or campanulatus.

Correctly identify these species can be difficult, especially without a picture, spore print, and other information.

yeah, they can't be copelandia cyanescens.

take a spore print...

are the caps really slimy when they're fresh?

panaeolus is a reasonable guess, or possibly stropharia or a related genus, spore color would tell...

I'm pretty sure that it is some kind of a panaeolus, and yes, it is slimy when fresh. But I don't think it is stropharia to be honest. Haven't found any stropharia that looks like mine. By the way, sphinctrinus and campanulatus isn't inactive, are they?? Aren't nearly every panaeolus shroom magic?? And I have read that not every cyanescens turn blue. It depends on climate and so on...

I'll take a spore print as soon as possible...Thanks dudes

Yeah..The stropharia you've found there looks pretty much the same. And the following link tells me that Stropharia semiglobata contains psilocyn, right??

And this link tells me that sphinctrinus and campanulatus contains psilocyn, or am I totally lost now??

those sites are incorrect.

S. semiglobata is inactive, as are the panaeolus species you mentioned.

Ok..Now I get a little confused here  I'm not sure what to trust. Do you have secure and updated sources?
I think it's pretty weird that a serious article from Erowid is incorrect, but as long as you're sure, then I guess you're right.

But do you have any idea of if my shroom might be poisonous??

I live in norway too and see allot of them shrooms around on the fields, I think its a stropharia semiglobalta, it is sead that they contain some psilocybin, but i dont think they do, i know peoples that have been eating them with no effects, they call them "m?kkaflein" in norwegian, because they often grow on dung and you will not get a tripp from them, and no if its a semiglobata its not not poisonus...

Okey...Sounds logic. As soon as my sporeprints are done now I can be sure. But if I find out that it is a semiglobalta, I will try it out just to be sure if it is active or not. You'll hear from me when the prints are ok.

Thanks for all the help people....
Peace

Stupid idea. If you've been told a mushroom is inactive and not a good edible, it's a bad idea to eat it. You'll probably get a bad stomach ache and diarreah.
