Suitable jars
    #4521986 - 08/11/05 02:39 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

i am in the uk and am having trouble finding any jars to make cakes in. had a look on the shelf at home and a quick look in the shop for jars with tapered sides and no lip at the top but i cant find anything.

can anyone on here recommend any products that come in suitable jars that i could use that would be available in the uk?

thanks

If you are really in a pinch you can just use a thick wall drinking glass and a few layers of tin foil for the top.if you do this, it's a good idea to use a rubberband to hold the foil on after inoculation.

Nice one. I'd add an alcohol moistened coffee filter over top of that once inoculation is complete, as an added filter that would still allow gas exchange.

I just use a piece of that Johnson & Johnson breathable cloth tape to cover the holes.

To all who’s interested. just stumbled on to the holly grail if you’re English and grow pf style. Basically if you’re after half pint tapered jars for pf cakes just go on the tescos website, and look in the preserving section there you will see bone mama preserves in the jam section in an assortment of different flavours. Ore alternatively you could contact the company and ask them directly.  should be receiving mine on Monday, so  will keep you posted.

Ps The jam looked good too..

You can always use plastic containers too.

I just did a big batch a week or two ago.
