yer pictures aren't very clear... but it looks like it's rhyzomorphic growth; which is an indicator that the mycellium is growing strong.

Except for the fact that he seems to have removed it from the jar at like 20% colonization, which will unfortunately be a magnet for contamination.

agreed. THERE IS NO NEED FOR US TO YELL, YOUR JAR WAS SAFE, SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT IN THE JAR AND MAYBE YOU WOULD HAVE HAD SOME SUCCESS.
