windows sucks; automatic security actions that I don't want (help)
    #4521458 - 08/11/05 11:11 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Since I have a new computer windows is acting more and more on it's own doing things that I don't want. It decides for me what kind of files I can and cannot recieve trough msn and keeps bothering me with other security issues that are complete bullshit. I want to control windows, not the other way around

what can I do about this?

you need to modify your services.

follow the instructions here: http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=12

just go down the list and follow the "safe" service configuration and disable the services by running "services.msc" w/o quotations. you should also read each service entry to see if you need it or not - although the "safe" list is pretty good/general for most people. automatic updates and background intelligent transfer services are left as "auto" on the safe list - you can disable these if you want. Whenever you want to do a Windows Upate just re-enable.

just spend sometime reading through and seeing what you need or what you do not need.

your computer will be saving plenty of RAM and be less annoying - not to mention be more secure by closing some of these security holes.

stefan, if you are using MSN Messenger, with the newest version, they are blocking certain file types.

If you want the patch that will remove it, you can go to www.mess.be/ I believe it is or wait till I get home and I can probably send it to you.
