liquid growth mycelium
    #451901 - 11/08/01 04:22 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everybody,,...really could use some help. If anyone is familiar with the liquid growth mycelium using malt extract, I just finished pressure cooking my water and malt extract, and when I look in the jars, I can see little clumps of the malt extract floating around...is this normal. I am going to Innoculate the jars tomorrow with spores. Is everything fine or is somethig wrong? Please help.
Thanks
Trip[

"little clumps of the malt extract floating around"

You only used malt +water? No other component that could be floating?
Probably you didn't mix the malt and water thouroughly before autoclaving.

If the water has a "matly" colour, then the clumps aren't a problem. So go on and inoculate...

Thats sounds like carmelization, which is normal. Its fine. You only need to pressure cook malt-water 15 minutes to kill the bugs, and reducing the time reduce the carmelization.

It sounds fine. Shake every day to keep the clumps broken up.
