I've colonized some cakes in jars. They all seem to be fine except one has a weird spot. The mycelium is covering the cake all but in one spot. The mycelium around the spot has a slightly off white color to it. Is the cake ok or is it contaminated?
If it continues to colonize that spot slowly, lightly tap the jar upside down on a book so the cake seperates from the jar. Just leave it upside down and it will finish up. It will get really cottony when doing this method. Don't worry. It's normal.
